Dentofacial Orthopedics - Wired Orthodontics

Dentofacial Orthopedics – Orthodontic Specialist

To be considered a specialist, dentists undergo an additional 2 to 3 years of formal training in a residency. There are nine recognized dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association of which one is “Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.” While most people have no problem describing the “Orthodontics” portion, the term “Dentofacial Orthopedics” is not as well understood. Dentofacial Orthopedics involves the guidance of facial growth and development, which is largely undertaken during the childhood/adolescent years. Given that Dr. Nalbandian is a specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, he is able to diagnose misalignments of the teeth, jaws and facial structures and help guide your child’s facial growth (via the use of various appliances) in addition to moving teeth.
