How Long Does It take To Get Used To Invisalign?
Anyone wishing to have straight, beautiful teeth will benefit greatly from Invisalign clear aligners. However, you may quickly begin wondering, “how long does it take to get used to Invisalign?”
Clear Aligners
Invisalign is a fantastic alternative to traditional braces. To elaborate, Invisalign aligners utilize a clear, flexible plastic. This is much different than metal wires and brackets used in traditional braces. Specifically, Invisalign utilizes patented thermoplastic called SmartTrack®. This material is incredibly durable yet slightly tensile. Patients will likely receive between 20-30 separate clear aligners throughout their treatment. However, some patients still experience slight levels of discomfort when first beginning treatment.
How Long Does It Take To Get Used To Invisalign?
Typically, some patients experience discomfort around their cheeks and the edges of their gums during the first few weeks of treatment. Furthermore, patients must wear their clear aligners at least 20-22 hours a day, minimum. Additionally, they may remove their clear aligners to eat or perform basic dental care. It’s understandable that a new foreign object in someone’s mouth like Invisalign could feel quite odd and uncomfortable. Fortunately, this discomfort quickly abates around 2-3 weeks of normal wear.
How To Reduce Discomfort From Invisalign
There are several methods at your disposal for reducing the discomfort associated with new Invisalign aligners. For example, we highly recommend over the counter NSAIDs and pain relievers at least twice a day, or as recommended by your physician. Additionally, cold compresses work wonderfully when applied to tender areas around the jaw. Lastly, you may smooth down any rough edges or corners on your clear aligners with an emery board.
